History

The house was built in the year 1874 as a residence and remained as such until the Second World war. Well preserved it was remodelled as a boarding house after the war, before it was taken over by the manager der Rike in 1999 and, after extensive renovation, was reopened a year later as the Hotel Altberlin.

The hotel is furnished according to the ideas of Rike's grandfather. The furniture was built using his plans. Surviving original pieces such as the buffet from 1874 in the restaurant, complete the historic Berlin flair.
Before the World War, the main entrance was for carriages. The wall painting is also original. The well in the courtyard was originally used for watering horses and as a source of drinking water for the kitchen. You can still see parts of the historical food lift in the restaurant.
